About The Dairy Market
Recently restored, Charlottesville's Dairy Market has for decades served as both an architectural focal point and community gathering spot for residents, students, and visitors. Once home to an ice cream parlor, event venue, and, for a while, a very large plastic cow sculpture, the space that was once a column-fronted milk processing facility went dark in the early 2000s until a local develop group led by Paul Manning acquired and redeveloped the site into the area’s first “market hall.” It is now home to numerous and ethnically-diverse restaurants and retail shops , becoming a strong draw along the Preston corridor in downtown Charlottesville.
What to Expect
On this 1-hour food tour, you’ll tour the Dairy Market, then enjoy 4 small plates from a selection of culinary styles, including Latin American, Thai, Caribbean, classic College and, in a return to dairy origins, artisanal ice cream!
You’ll meet your Guide at the front of the Dairy Market (946 Grady Avenue).
You'll savor the bold flavors of Chimm’s famous Spicy Spring Roll and Curried Chicken, indulge in 434’s delectable Caribbean Shrimp & Grits, enjoy Take It Away’s gourmet Turkey & Swiss with house-made sauce, and delight in Maizal’s crispy Craquerna paired with a refreshing glass of chilled Jarritos.
